The Defence of Justice

Husayn ibn Ali was motivated to defend justice and the genuine principles of Islam when he chose to oppose Yazid. He thought that Yazid’s reign deviated from Prophecy’s teachings.teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and a danger to the Muslim community’s moral and spiritual integrity. Husayn’s stance was driven by a strong feeling of duty to shield the faith and its adherents against corruption rather than a desire for power.

Husayn refused, so Yazid dispatched an army to face him. Husayn made the decision to go on the Umayyad soldiers with a small band of devoted family members and supporters even though he was aware of the tremendous odds against him. Thousands of Yazidi soldiers encircled Husayn’s camp near Karbala, cutting off his supplies of food and water. Husayn and his friends went without food and drink for days, but they did not waver in their position. The Ashura Day
The culmination of this stalemate is Ashura, which falls on the 10th of Muharram. On this day, the troops of Yazid viciously assaulted Husayn and his seventy-two comrades. Instead of being a traditional military conflict, Husayn’s tiny troop was massacred in the combat. Husayn watched as everyone of his companions—including members of his own family—was executed one by one. Husayn persisted in his devotion to justice in spite of the pain and loss.
